Purpose Statement

The basic premise of this course is understanding how leadership can aid in the navigating of organisational life. Drawing on different 'frames' of reference, this course will challenge you as managers and possibly change your perspective on a number of organisational issues. Through the view of ‘framing’, the paper will enrich your ideas and the approaches you bring to your work, and how you lead others (and yourself!). The course begins by examining how individuals and organisations often rely on a 'frame' of reference from a time gone by; examine the role of humans as resources; understand leadership styles and needs; and navigate through the complex and unpredictable environment in which we work.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Analyse and understand the role of leadership in organisational framing, reframing and personal challenges.
  2. Identify the reframing of critical organisational issues such as structure, culture, motivation, change and ethics
  3. Analyse how leaders can expand their options and enhance their effectiveness by considering alternative approaches
  4. Explore the limitations of the traditional view of leadership and being able to propose a more comprehensive view of how leadership works in organisations of tomorrow.
